TINA GOOD NEWS
Former S Club
girl lands 250,000 gum deal
WHEN S Club split, she was voted the one least likely to do much
with her career.
But Tina Barrett is determined to prove her critics wrong.
The dark-haired beauty has landed an amazing 250,000 deal as the
international face of Wrigley's chewing gum.
And the deal is all the more sweet for Tina because it dwarfs the
100,000 rival band member Rachel Stevens was recently paid for
becoming the face - or legs - of Pretty Polly tights.
In fact she's so delighted with the endorsement she's apparently
told pals that she's "got one up" on Rachel.
A source close to the singer who was labelled "the plank" of the
band, which split in April said: "Rachel's always competing but Tina
thinks she's won as Wrigley is a lot bigger than Pretty Polly.
"She's also getting paid more which is a bonus."
"Her face is going to be on billboards and on adverts in Europe and
America.
"Thanks to the success of S Club, the band all have recognisable
faces, but Tina and Rachel were always the prettiest ones, who stood
out from the others. Tina was picked on this occasion and she is
absolutely delighted.
"She's making more money being out of the group than she ever made
when she was in it and she couldn't be happier."
The insider also revealed that the two sexy singers have barely been
on speaking terms since the premiere of the last S Club movie Seeing
Double.
Our source tells us that Rachel, 25, who last week called off her
engagement to Holby City actor Jeremy Edwards, was particularly
peeved with Tina for nabbing the sensational Scott Henshall dress
she was due to wear to the party.
In a repeat of the cat fight All Saints had just weeks before their
split three years ago - when they rowed over a jacket for a pop
appearance - the pair argued over the barely-there gown, with Tina
the winner.
Our source tells us: "They've never been best friends but the
competition reached fever pitch when Tina wore that red Scott
Henshall dress to the premiere of Seeing Double.
"Rachel was absolutely fuming as she wanted to wear it. In the end
she just threw on a demure black number which was her act of
defiance.
"It was her way of saying you need more publicity than I do, for she
always knew she was going to be the bigger star."
Wrigley insiders hope Tina's glam ads won't land them in the same
trouble as their last campaign did.
Earlier this year the company's ad for X-cite chewing gum provoked a
record 700 complaints to the Independent Television Commission (ITC)
in Britain.
The advert shows a man puking up a scruffy mutt - a paw emerges from
his mouth first, followed by the rest of the hound. He has such a
bad case of "dog breath" that only a piece of gum can cure it. The
ITC was flooded with complaints.
The insider went on: "The only people likely to be offended by these
ads are people who don't like sexy girls."
